How it works

How the raw dog food calculator works

Daily amount

It starts with your dog’s weight and works out a daily amount as a share of body weight, adjusted for life stage and activity level. For a typical adult dog that is about 2 to 3% of body weight a day: around 2% for a quieter dog and 3% for a very active one. Pets that are still growing start higher and taper down by age. It also suggests how many meals to split the day into.

The 80/10/10 split

It then splits that daily amount using the 80/10/10 guide: about 80% muscle meat, 10% raw bone and 10% organ.

Products and cartons

Finally, it suggests products that suit your dog’s life stage and leave out any allergens you select, and works out how many cartons cover the number of weeks you choose. About 90% of the food comes from a mince or blend and 10% from raw bones.

Raw feeding calculator: common questions

Does it work for cats?

Yes. Choose cat at the start. Adult cats are worked out at about 3% of body weight a day, and only products we suggest for cats are recommended. Our guide to feeding cats raw meat has more.

What is the 80/10/10 guide?

What if my dog has allergies?

The calculator works it out for the number of weeks you choose. Mixes and minces come in 10 kg cartons and rolls in 18 kg cartons, so change the weeks to see how the carton count changes.
